I was on my way to Fire Island and took the reference photo of this sailboat for this pastel painting. You can see the background clearly but I chose to blur it out. I loved the light hitting the boat and how it reflected in the water.
Stunning work Hilda. I hope you will do more landscapes. The decision to blur the background is right on and the sailboat seems to be gliding through the water.
The word "stunning" has been used a lot to describe this painting, but I have to agree. It is just STUNNING! The simplicity of it; the light, the water, the misty horizon... Hope you put a frame on it very soon Hilda!!
Oh Hilda - this is beautiful. I enlarged it and really could see the light. This is such a peaceful serene scene. Thank you for sharing. I hope you are having a great day. Hugs!
outrageously good...love the light and the "speed" I feel. I got to sail on sailboats when I lived in Florida..a great experience. You really captured the feeling. :)
Hilda this is truly beautiful!! The light on the boat is almost magical. The water is so really painted and the little birds make the picture. Gorgeous, a very thick compliment!! I wish I could see you work with the pastels! xxx
Muchisimas gracias por tu comentario amable, Mercedes...lo agradezco ! Pintando el mar eras muy diferente para mi....pero me gusto! Un abrazo fuerte...
This is absolutely stunning! I think it's my favourite to date... The warm low light is exquisite and the blurred background was a great decision. Beautiful! :0)
Beautiful, Hilda. I love the mood you created by manipulating the atmosphere. I haven't visited your blog for a while. I must compliment you on your body of work...your paintings are all so great. "Abandoned" is great palette knife painting; capturing that moment in time before it will be gone and forgotten.
thank you so much Pat!!! I'm glad you liked the painting..and I'm glad you liked Abandoned...painting with the palette knife is so much fun!! We need to capture that moment in time before all the barns are gone!!
Thank you SO much Judy!! Yes, we are very young at heart! Thank you again fo helping me figure out how to insert the sidebar!!!! It will be so easy now to find everyone!
I know I commented on this before, but I just wanted to say again, how beautiful and serene this scene is. Beautifully painted, Hilda and the highlights are killer.
You really nailed it, Hilda. What a lovely painting! Your idea to simplify the background and focus on that beautiful light on the sails makes this a winner.
I love this one Hilda. You're control of the light is fantastic and blurring the horizon was a masterstroke. The bright highlights and hazy background combine to suggest the beginnings of a hot sunny summers day about to happen. Stunning!!
This is just breathtaking, Hilda! I love the softness and colors and the just perfect rendering of light. I look forward to seeing your horse series . . .
Hilda this painting is a masterpiece! The light on the boat and that little wave at the bow, are perfect. I love the soft hazy atmosphere of moisture in the air. I live on an island and see the sailboats passing all the time, and you have perfectly captured that atmosphere. The colours from the sky down through the water are beautiful. I enlarged the photo, and then saw the wonderful texture in the water. So well done Hilda! I love it!

My name is Hilda Muxo Klinger. My passion for art came early.I have always said that I was born with a pencil in one hand and a box of crayons in the other.I am a Bronx born New Yorker who can remember sitting at the kitchen table copying faces that appeared in the newspapers and magazines as a girl.
I am married 53 years and have two daughters and five amazing grandchildren. While I worked and raised my family in East Rockaway, I used art as a form of relaxation, painting here and there. I dabbled with several artistic mediums through the years—everything from pencil to charcoal to oil and it was only after I joined The Parish Social Ministry Art Club in East Rockaway in 2006 that I realized my true passion of pastels.
I studied under Dan Slapo and I don't think I've ever enjoyed a class more than I did with him. He taught me many different techniques in painting a portrait. Working with a live model was so different for me and I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to work with this Master of Pastels...He encouraged me to join the Pastel Society and I am now an Associate Member . I am thrilled to say that I have displayed my paintings in Rockville Center Village Art Club and have received several ribbons for my work. Thank you for visiting my blog. I will continue to add my painting in the future and hope you enjoy them as I have enjoyed painting them.
Hilda, this is absolutely superb!!! Wonderful work!!!
