Early morning cruising

I was on my way to Fire Island and took the reference photo of this sailboat for this pastel painting.   You can see the background clearly but I chose to blur it out.  I loved the light hitting the boat and how it reflected in the water.

    The light in this is exquisite - simply exquisite.
    Great decision to blur the horizon. It adds to the magical feel of this masterpiece.

    The word "stunning" has been used a lot to describe this painting, but I have to agree. It is just STUNNING! The simplicity of it; the light, the water, the misty horizon... Hope you put a frame on it very soon Hilda!!

    outrageously good...love the light and the "speed" I feel. I got to sail on sailboats when I lived in Florida..a great experience. You really captured the feeling. :)

    Beautiful, Hilda. I love the mood you created by manipulating the atmosphere. I haven't visited your blog for a while. I must compliment you on your body of work...your paintings are all so great. "Abandoned" is great palette knife painting; capturing that moment in time before it will be gone and forgotten.

    Hilda this painting is a masterpiece! The light on the boat and that little wave at the bow, are perfect. I love the soft hazy atmosphere of moisture in the air. I live on an island and see the sailboats passing all the time, and you have perfectly captured that atmosphere. The colours from the sky down through the water are beautiful. I enlarged the photo, and then saw the wonderful texture in the water. So well done Hilda! I love it!
