I wish I could tell you what it is, but
whenever I see a barn during our
trips, I immediately feel the need to
take a picture. This wasn't your
traditional barn, but something about
the shadowing and color drew me in to
this North Carolina barn.

I love old barns too. Have you read the description of the barn in Charlotte's Web? It is a great description and you have done a great panting one.
ReplyDeleteI really don't know how are the barns in USA, I wouldn't know differentiated from each other, but in my books about watercolor paintings I saw a lot of them. I think es a very good theme to paint.
ReplyDeleteI love this pastel, in my opinion it shows perfectly its essence.
I think is good follow the impulsos. I love it!. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteDOUG...Thank you..and for stopping by. Loved Charlotte's Web. Maybe I should have added one of the animals that stopped by the barn!!
ReplyDeleteJULIAN..Thank you for that kind comment. I have seen barns in watercolor and love it ..its such a difficult medium and wish I can do it. Maybe some day.
CARMEN...thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it and for your stopping by my blog.
I'm fascinated with barns also and North Carolina is a great place to see them. You have a gift for rendering them. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletethank you Trudy. North Carolina does have great barns. We have so many hidden barns that waits.. for someone to take their photo.!
ReplyDeleteLove the title! Barns really are a fascinating subject. I wonder if it's the history, their secret stories, their often dilapidated beauty, or all of the above that draws us. Lovely painting, happy to see you back at it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Claire. Barns talk to me..when I look at them..they each have a story..but this one just caught my eye. Thank you for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteYes, barns are real attention grabbers, Hilda!
ReplyDeleteThis pastel is excellent!
nice pastel Hilda. I too am drawn to barns as I am sure a lot of folks are. I was out at my sisters place in SE Oregon last fall and driving some backroads with my brother in law I had him stop at a number of places to photograph barns[there are a lot of really neat ones in that area]He mentioned he never looked at them until being drawn to them by what I was doing. That is unreal to me.??
ReplyDeletethanks for the comment on my art blog. Much appreciated
Nice job on this fascinating structure!
ReplyDeleteThank you DEAN...I don't know what it is about barns but yes, they do get my attention when I see one. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by GARY. You're right. You see more barns when you travel the backroads of America. Now that your brother in law is aware of all these great barns maybe he can find some interesting ones and photograph them for you....
ReplyDeleteHi DIANA, Thank you for stopping by. You made my day.
ReplyDeleteWe, too, brake for barns, and ranches which we have many of in the mountains here. Great piece.

ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and commenting. I love your title for this one! I thin old barns remind us of the lives that have been lived on that property. Maybe a simpler time. I love the red roof on this one. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love your old barn Hilda. It looks simply idyllic! I would love to have a picnic there and just sit in a nice summer breeze. Wouldn't that be great?
ReplyDeleteI've been reading through your older posts that I missed (your portraits look gorgeous!) and wanted to tell you that I'm so sorry about the passing of your Dad. My heart goes out to you. What a treat that you posted one of his paintings. :) *hugs*
