Captivated

I have painted her many times but when your model is home from College because of Covid... well, we have to take advantage.  I took the photo in front of the window so the lighting wasn't exactly how I wanted but next time. lol   This portrait is 11 x 14 painted  on Canson mi-tientes paper which is wonderful for portraits.  I paint on the smooth side rather than the textured side...

  8. Just gorgeous!!! Nice lighting and wonderful skin tones. I read on Jo Castillo's blog that you were heading to Blick. I've been thinking about making a trip but I have to reorganize my time with Jerry to make it work. May end up just ordering online. lol

    1. Someday I will see you painting somewhere on Long Island! I look all the time!! Yes, I went To Blicks and they changed things around... now I don’t know where anything is and they don’t have to many pastels... hopefully they’ll get new supplies! Soon I’ll have to order from on-line as well. Thank you for your comment my friend!

  9. Hello Hilda

You are lucky to have such a beautiful model to paint, and you have done her proud. Your work is breathtaking. Regarding your query, we don't want another dog now, in fact we ARE too old. When one is over eighty, and in poor health it does require someone with more energy than we can muster, to care for a dog. We have had many dogs in our lifetime, but Mel will be our last. I'm happy for you though.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. I’m so happy you stopped by to comment... we can smile with those beautiful memories of our fur babies... Bambi will be my last dog...she really does keep me busy. And honestly, when I have those aches....she still wants to go out! Lol so I understand how you feel.
I hope you’re feeling well ....and thank you for your beautiful comment again. My granddaughter is home right now so I take many reference photos for future paintings. Sending hugs.

  10. Oh BOY! Your love for the subject is shining through...and who can blame you. She has genuine "kindness" shining through her beautiful eyes. And what a fabulous job you did with those eyes, Hilda. Did you move into a pastel pencil for the final details on hair or sharpen the stick? Amazing how real it looks.
    Curious mind wants to know.

  11. She is a wonderful model Julie. I love painting her eyes especially! I always start with pastels on her eyes and yes, I finish them with my carbothelllo pastel pencils for the final details.. with her hair I break the pastel in half to get that sharp edge for the strands of her hair!!
    LOVE the detail work....
