During one of our trips to Tenn. we stopped by a small park and I took this reference photo...I loved the old wooden fence and thought it would make a nice painting...I decided to paint it with oils instead of pastels.... I'm doing a large painting of the Grand Canyon right now and it's giving me so many problems...I don't know what I'm doing....talk about challenging!! lol Hopefully by next week I'll have it figured out... meanwhile, I hope you enjoy my little oil painting...

Hilda, I can readily see why you stopped at this scene and took a photo! It's beautiful! The manner in which you did your foliage is wonderful - a delightful range of greens and mixed temperatures. The aged wooden fence leads my eyes in, and those lovely pink flowers are sprinkled into the grasses like colored exclamation points! Bravo, my friend!
ReplyDeletethank you Carol for such a nice comment. I really enjoyed painting this...lately I'm enjoying taking out my oils.
DeleteI love the way you prominently placed the fence that brings attention to the different hues of green, I know why you wanted to paint this lovely landscape. Look forward to your Canyons.
ReplyDeletethank you Padmaja for stopping by and for your nice comment. I was always afraid to use greens, but it seemed to work out this time..lol. I'm almost finished with my Canyons...
DeleteWow...Hilda! Only totally brilliant. You were telling me you hadn't used oils and here is a masterclass. The greens are so well handled and the simplicity of the scene makes the flowers look exotic. I'm still figuring out this oil business too, Great fun isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYou're so kind John! I don't paint with oils that much but I have to say, once I started this painting it was a lot of fun.!!
DeleteHello Hilda!:) I love the way you painted this simple country scene, that seems so familiar to me. The Foxcloves, look really pretty against the fence.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sonjia!! I appreciate you stopping by to comment!! Living the Country life is a dream for me!!
DeleteWonderfully done Hilda. Great colors and textures from the roughness of the fence (knots and all), the various types of trees and the delicate flowers. Such an inviting scene.

DeleteI love the flowers contrasted with the fence!!! I can see what attracted you to stop and take a photo. I tried doing a painting of the Grand Canyon once and found it too overwhelming. It is a hard subject with all the layers and trying to get the depth to look right. I'm sure you will work it out.
