This precious little girl is my brother-in-laws great grandchild, Hyla.
I found the reference picture so perfect for this portrait...why is it perfect?...no teeth! LOL. I feel so comfortable painting this in pastels but I would like to paint this in oils someday. I'm still experimenting with colors and blending, but would love to at least try.....A definite challenge !!

ReplyDeletethank you so much SUSAN for stopping by and for your comment on Hyla. I had so much fun painting this little girl!!
DeleteHi Hilda - this is gorgeous. The mouth is still hard to do even without teeth and it is perfect.
ReplyDeleteOils? You will find oils as forgiving as pastels but the colors have to be mixed and I have found that is the hardest for artists trying oils to get used to. Personally, I love oils and feel you will be good at anything you try.
thank you so much JULIE ..I appreciate your comment and I'm hoping that with practice I will be able to mix the oils to do a portrait. I have problems with skin colors but I will be doing some experimenting. You're so encouraging!!
DeleteEnjoy the rest of the Evening!!
Oh yes - the teeth thing!! I don't like drawing them either if I can help it, but I do find that they are okay as long as I don't try to paint the lines between each tooth. Instead I just draw the shape of the gums and the shape of the bottom line. Then its a matter of shading.
ReplyDeleteYour portrait is just perfect! So beautifully done :0)
thank you SANDRA for stopping by and for your lovely comment. I've been getting better with teeth..again its practice!!

DeleteSweet smile, happy eyes, a lovely portrait. --I find teeth challenging too, but really appreciate an open mouth smile. Well painted, it shows an artist's skill and daring. The only way to get there is to keep choosing those photos.
