We were heading home from one of our vacations and decided to go through scenic Pennsylvania. The reference picture was somewhere in Lancaster, PA. Thank goodness there are still many farms and wide open land left in PA to enjoy. Unfortunately,
so many areas are being sold off to build more developments...it's
so sad! Do we really need more homes? I'd rather have the farms. I guess I don't like "change". I really enjoyed painting this in oils. A portrait next...

A beautiful farm landscape, Hilda! I can smell the greens and hear the birds. :) I agree with you completely. I see the same encroaching development here, and I really don't like it!!!
ReplyDeletethank you so much KATHRYN for such a nice comment! I'm glad you agree...Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!!
DeleteYou really captured the feeling of this part of PA. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI see your are going back to portraits so will look forward to seeing your next painting.
thank you JULIE! Pennsylvania is a beautiful State and glad you like this one....yes, I miss painting portraits..its time..LOL!!!! Enjoy the rest of the Evening..
DeleteSo peaceful looking, Hilda. I'm with you on keeping the farms and trees. There are so many empty homes and stores everywhere I'd love to see them filled with people. At 12 y.o. Jacob looked at me one day and said "I can never see myself living anywhere without trees." It made me proud of the way he feels. Hope things are good with you. :)
ReplyDeletethank you so much CAROL!! There's so many empty homes and stores by me and they keep on building more..I don't understand why they do that..Jacob is very smart..you should be proud..he sees beauty around him already. Enjoy the rest of the weekend...
DeleteA lovely landscape with beautiful greens and that amazing sky. Thankfully, your painting will forever capture the rural beauty of this area.
ReplyDeletethank you so much SUSAN for that lovely comment. I appreciate those words. Enjoy the rest of the Evening!!
DeleteI love the composition, Hilda. And the big, beautiful sky. So pretty!
ReplyDeletethank you so much DARLA!! I'm glad you stopped by and so happy you liked this painting!!! Enjoy the rest of the weekend..
DeleteI'd rather have the farms too so we can take those detours and see the scenic places that are left. Lovely sky and I like the road that makes you wind around to the house. This is really nice!
ReplyDeletethank you JOAN for such a nice comment. I always enjoy going off the main roads to see the old barns..there's still wonderful places out there..we just have to look.. I'm so glad you like this painting..enjoy the rest of the Evening..

ReplyDeletethank you CELESTE for stopping by!! I'm glad you like it..I value your comment!!! Enjoy your weekend.
DeleteI also find Pennsylvania beautiful, Hilda. I love this scene and I'm with you. I hate seeing open land turned into subdivisions. Some of the houses might be pretty, but then they tend to be cookie cutter houses with no mature trees and houses that can only have certain colors of paint. Bah.
ReplyDeleteI really agree with you SHERRY! Cookie cutter houses is the perfect word for it.
DeleteEvery house does seem to be the same.!
Pennsylvania is definitely a beautiful State..and I really hope they keep their beautiful farms. Enjoy the rest of the weekend...
This is so beautiful... And there is such a feeling of depth! And I love that vast sky with the sun rays peeping through. Perfect!! :0)
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much SANDRA! You just made my day!! I'm glad you like it. enjoy the rest of the weekend..
DeleteThis work is beautiful and reflects your emotions. We in India are also feeling the negative effects of unplanned development. The recent landslides and floods in one of the tourist destinations in the himalayan foothills resulting in more than a thousand deaths was a result of this. keep preserving it on your canvas. if we go at the same pace the next generation will need them.
ReplyDeletethank you AK for stopping by and leaving me such a nice comment! I really appreciate it.! So sad to hear about the landslides and horrific floods in India and these poor people who lost their lives...!!
DeleteBeautiful landscape! You have really captured the moment and mood of this place. have a hard time with it too. And we do need our farms!
ReplyDeletethank you CATHY! I'm so glad you like this painting and so glad you agree ..yes,
Deletewe do need our farms! Enjoy the rest of the weekend...
It is beautiful, just perfect. You sure have mastered oils.
ReplyDeletethank you BARBARA!!! you're so kind! I'm still learning...mixing colors are always difficult for me..but I have fun trying!! Enjoy your day!!

ReplyDeletethank you NELVIA for such a nice comment. I appreciate it...I really enjoyed painting the sky!! Landscapes are definitely a nice change for me...Enjoy this wonderful day.

DeleteHola Hilda: ¡¡¡¡Que paisaje encantador, especial para disfrutar por su belleza! Felicitaciones.Abrazos!!

DeleteLove your clouds! Such beautiful farmland throughout the world.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much CAROL! I really enjoyed painting the sky and fluffy clouds. Yes, I have traveled a lot around this beautiful Country and passed through some amazing farmlands!!! Enjoy the rest of the weekend..
DeleteBeautiful painting Hilda.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I don't like houses and industrIal areas popping up where there once were farms.
Change is not always a good thing.
thank you ERIK! I appreciate your visit!!
Deleteand of course, your wonderful comment!
as far as change...you're right..it isn't always good.. and when they do build up these homes, they stay vacant for a long time...I really don't understand. Enjoy the rest of the Evening!!
A lovely painting, Hilda!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the shame of vanishing farms. It's like a snowball rolling downhill.
thank you so much DEAN for stopping by and glad you agree...You're right, the change is happening too fast...Enjoy the rest of the Evening..
DeleteA beautiful expression of your love of the land. You are so versatile, Hilda, both in medium and subject matter. I also love the pastel tribute to you sweet little dog.
ReplyDeletethank you so much MARY for that very generous comment.! I appreciate it. and glad you liked Cali...she's a very sweet little dog who "knows" she's loved.
DeleteHi Hilda:) A Dutch country road doesn't mean here in Holland it is all this beautiful. It's getting less and less:( Your painting is so beautiful. If people look at this 30 years from now they will say: was it so beautiful back then? And you, as an old lady, can say: yes it was, I was there! :) Big hug friend!xx
ReplyDeletethank you so much for your very kind comment, RENATE. And you're right..I probably won't be around in 30 years but I will still hope these farms are still around when I visit it again..LOL! Hugs!
DeleteVery nice landscape Hilda. Yes, I wish the farms would remain too. Wide open fields are disappearing here in Maine too.
ReplyDeletethank you so much STEPHANIE...I appreciate your opinion...glad you stopped over to comment...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of this beautiful day!!
I know what you mean. I find driving by these disappearing farms romantic--like a time that's past. We were warned as children about Megatropolises and things seem to be going that way. Lovely painting Hilda of quieter times and less complexities.
ReplyDeleteYou're so right LINDA! I didn't think it would be so fast. It's hard work for these farmers and expensive for them to run a farm..so they're selling so fast to these developers that build these homes so quickly..glad you stopped to comment!
DeleteEnjoy this lovely day.
Yes, the poor farmers can no longer afford to ply their trade and are forced to move on to be successful and support their families. The things that were when we grew up have changed or disappeared as it seems to with each generation.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Rome I saw paintings of the Roman Forum as it was in the 1600's. Maybe our paintings will serve that purpose in the future. :)
thank you CAROL for such a nice comment.
DeleteLike you said, when we were growing up, it was so different ..now, because the farmers can't afford to farm any longer it's slowly disappearing.. NOT possible but don't you wish that they can at least leave the land open? Enjoy your day!!
Love this composition.
ReplyDeletethank you SO much KAREN for stopping by and for your lovely comment! Enjoy your day!!
DeleteLove the softness and composition here. A beautiful farm scene and one that reminds us all to enjoy open spaces. I agree, that we need to save them!
ReplyDeletethank you MARY for stopping by and for your lovely comment. Yes, let's enjoy it while we can...Have a wonderful day..
DeleteActually we already have enough. But desire has no bounds and that is destroying every thing around us. And conveniently it is termed as 'change/development'. Anyway this is a beautiful piece. When I saw it in my blog roll I was like WOW..
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked this painting, PRABAL!!!
DeleteYou just made me so happy! Like I said..
sometimes change is sad especially when we have no control. Enjoy this wonderful day!!!
This is a beautiful landscape and great composition Hilda, good job! Hugs :)
ReplyDeletethank you so much MARI...you're so kind!
DeleteGlad you like it and have a wonderful day!! hugs..
I just came back again to tell you how beautiful this painting is. It sparks all kinds of pleasant memories.
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet, LINDA! thank you again.!
DeleteHi Hilda! Lovely scene, there's an impression of "grandeur " with this large sky and I like the soft colors. I can't wait to see your next portrait. Happy painting.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you liked this HELEN! I really enjoyed painting it ..my portrait is ready to post soon. Enjoy this beautiful day!!
DeleteOh WOW! This is gorgeous! I love that sky and the way you've suggested that the broad expanse of sky is such a vital element in this scene. That's truly the way it feels out there. The composition and colors and everything is so nicely done, and most of all it tells a beautiful poignant story.
ReplyDeleteKATHERINE...such a generous comment! I appreciate it so much. I enjoyed painting the sky!...this was exactly how it was..a beautiful clear day full of these poofy clouds and acres of land all around us.. enjoy the rest of the day!!
DeleteHilda, I thought this was a photograph when I first saw it. AMAZING!!! You are very talented!
ReplyDeletethank you HEATHER for stopping by and for your comment....You're so sweet..I'm glad you liked it.! Have a nice Evening!
DeleteBeautiful painting and great design, Hilda, and my sentiments exactly.
ReplyDeletethank you for stopping by CONNIE and for leaving me such a nice comment!!! Enjoy this lovely day.
DeleteChange can be good and not so good, there are many ruined buildings here in Ireland and I always wonder why they were abandoned and left to rot.
ReplyDeletethank you DIANA! Glad you stopped by to comment! so true..change can be good and not so good but when you see all these buildings abandoned we have to wonder why! Enjoy the rest of the day. I look forward to your next painting!!
ReplyDeleteSeeing your painting I can feel it's summer time. About the plethora of buildings in Lancaster, you should see our beaches. It's disgusting.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you stopped by to comment JULIAN!
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to believe your beaches are bad..
I guess the World is having lots of issues!!
Enjoy the rest of the day, my friend!!!
This is a beautiful scenic painting Hilda. I love those Pennsylvania farms too...we've driven by them a few times over the years. Gorgeous work!!
ReplyDeletethank you so much LISA! I'm glad you stopped by to comment..You're so kind! I appreciate it.!! Enjoy the rest of the Evening!!!

Hilda, this is a beautiful painting. I see that you also visited Carlisle. I live in a beautiful state and glad you were able to visit and commit such a beautiful section of it to canvas.
ReplyDeleteYou live in a beautiful State, Pat!! We visit Carlyle when they have their car shows..My husband likes to see the old cars..his time to Reminisce.! Glad you stopped by to comment!..
ReplyDeleteyou're very kind!
You captured a definite landscape "mood" beautifully! And I admire the sense of distance. I don't like change either . . . agree I'd love to see the beautiful farms stay.
ReplyDeletethank you so much LORRAINE!! I'm so glad you agree and I'm happy that you liked this landscape...enjoy the rest of the Evening...
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job!!! I know what you mean about no teeth!!! but I am sure you would have painted them perfectly also!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're so kind MARIA..I do paint teeth but I guess I prefer a smile. I went to a workshop working under Dan Slapo and he always made sure that his models didn't even smile....but I will soon be posting a portrait of a girl with a lovely smile and yes, teeth. Enjoy this wonderful day!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Hilda.
ReplyDeleteFantastic. more please. really, really lovely. All the best Hilda.
Vic.
You just made my day with your comment, VIC.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by..Enjoy the rest of the day..
A beautiful scene, Hilda. So what I remember from the area where I grew up. Gorgeous, rich farmland bulldozed down to make room for shopping malls and housing. Heartbreaking. I'm glad you preserved a portion of it through your exemplary painting.
ReplyDeletethank you so much CAROL! I appreciate your comment...I really agree and wish these farmlands wouldn't be bulldozed down for Malls and homes that they don't need. !!
DeleteGlad you like this painting!!!
This so beautiful Hilda. It is a shame to think that the view may disappear one day.
ReplyDeletethank you so much LAURA for such a nice comment!...we can only hope that this farm will be here the next time we visit!
DeleteI'm so glad you stopped by!!
ReplyDeleteRUBEN!!! Lo agradezco tu visita!!
un abrazo.
Transmite mucho este paisaje, un lugar ideal. Buen trabajo Hilda.
