Pointe slippers

I went to see "The Nutcracker" November 2016.  It was so magical.   To see these Ballerinas dancing on their toes was amazing!!  I can only imagine the incredible strength that they have to withstand their own weight on their toes... OUCH!!
The Nutcracker is a must see...  I wanted to practice "color" so I painted this in oils...

  3. I love 'Nutcracker' and I think it is an ideal performance with which to introduce children to the ballet. Similarly, I could see prints of your painting on the walls of 1000s of fans. So graceful, beautifully painted and symbolic.

Well done, Hilda, oil painting taken in your stride!

  7. This is lovely - so delicately handled! What fun to see you working in oils! Glad you saw "The Nutcracker" and now after the success with POINTE SLIPPERS, bet there will be more oils in your future. How nice that you can go back and forth with pastels and oil!

  8. I think I am a suppressed ballerina as I always wanted to dance, but you know it requires coordination. I forgot to get in that line. These are lovely and the tension between delicate and strength is strongly told in this picture.

  30. Beautiful painting Hilda. I remember reading an article about ballerinas' feet - they end up ugly with bunions, black nails, broken toes etc., in such stark contrast with the beauty they present on the outside! They really do suffer for their art.

  31. In that case. I'm glad I was never a ballerina!!! Lol
I can definitely see these problems with these dancers... And I'm happy that my granddaughters feet are weak. However, they look so beautiful dancing...sigh!!! Thank you for stopping now by to comment...I appreciate it Sue!
