Still Life - grapes
I truly enjoyed painting this still life. I thought it would be nice painting the tablecloth blue to match the grapes. I took the design in the vase from several pictures I had ... Using sanded paper was interesting as well because it gives you wonderful texture on the grapes and cloth.

So delicate, Hilda - a first class job. I've never used sanded paper, it sounds like you enjoy using it ... and it clearly works for you.
ReplyDeletethank you John! Sanded paper gives it texture when you paint..its perfect for rocks and mountains!!
DeleteNice Hilda + long time. Enjoy your holidays!
ReplyDeleteIts so nice hearing from you Susan..its been so long. I have a lot of problems getting into your blog so I'll keep trying...
DeleteHilda, this is sooo beautiful. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sonjia. I'm so glad you liked it...!!

ReplyDeletethank you so much Helen. I really liked the blue as well. Enjoy the rest of the Evening...
DeleteSo beautiful, Hilda.
ReplyDeletethank you SO much Carol!! I'm glad you stopped by to comment.
DeleteOk, you are so fast I didn't get to the first one to comment, but I like this one better. The blues are just great and you captured a delicate feel to the pitcher. Isn't it amazing how many layers and detail you can get on the sanded paper. But I am so used to moving the pastel around and it doesn't move that much on the sanded paper. What type did you use?
ReplyDeletethank you so much Nelvia. I think I like this one a bit more..probably because it has the pattern on the vase and I really like the blue...I'm not sure what the name of the sanded paper is..if I find out I'll let you know..
DeleteAh Ha! You said you were going to do another still life, and it is a delight to see! I think the design on it is beautiful. You have some fine lines in the design which is sometimes difficult to do on sanded paper. You managed it well! I love sanded paper especially UArt, and I hope you like it as well. The scene is elegant and restful, and everything relates perfectly! Please, more!
ReplyDeleteI'm having so much fun working with still life paintings. I'll be doing them more often. I'm doing an oil portrait right now..not sure how that's going. Very challenging since I don't do portraits in oil. lol
DeleteA gorgeous still life, the grapes look god enough to eat, so real , and you did an awesome work with the decoration on the vase.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice comment Jane... especially from someone who does beautiful work with still life paintings...
DeleteGreat job on the draping of the fabric and the shading on the vase...just perfect! I love that you found and used your own design for the vase.
ReplyDeleteAwww! thank you Joan! I enjoyed working with the drapes as well. SO different from my norm. I liked doing the drapery on the sanded paper.
Me gusta mucho.
ReplyDeleteUn fuerte abrazo.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful painting! The design on the pitcher is so delicately done and really brings this piece to life. And I think your use of a limited palette gives it a subdued elegance. Just lovely, Hilda!

ReplyDeleteI just love this one Hilda. The blues are wonderful and the painting is so harmonious. The design on the pitcher is fabulous. I painted in pastel, years ago, and I think that was very difficult to do. Wonderful work!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Carol. I felt so comfortable painting this...right now I'm painting a portrait in oils and I have to say it will definitely be my last ! Lol. I don't know how to mix colors.... But I will post it if I ever finish! Glad you stopped by to comment.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Danielle! I'm glad you stopped by to comment!! I appreciate it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe blues you used are so rich and beautifully varied, Hilda. Not easy to do...for me anyway. You know how delighted I was to find a bird on your beautiful design. Still life painting is a treasure because an artist can be so personal in their choices and the view gets a glimpse into the heart of the painter.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Julie for such a nice comment! I liked the bird as well....maybe I should have added a nest? Lol ...or actually you should have since I have NO idea how and you are the Master at painting nests!!! Enjoy the rest of this beautiful but cold day!!
ReplyDeleteLovely work Hilda
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ash! I appreciate you stopping by to comment!
Mille bisous ❄︎ ❄︎ ❄︎
Awww! Thank you so much Martine! Such a nice comment! Happy Holidays to you and your family!!!! Sending hugs!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are having fun! Still lifes are a nice relief from portraiture. I had a nice time catching up on your posts. I was very impressed with your technique and outstanding skin tones. Beautiful pastel renderings.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Linda! I never realized how much fun painting still life's would be! I have a reference photo that I would love to do....and the perfect paper for it.
