Still Life-apple
I don't usually paint a still life but I wanted to do something different. I realized how much I enjoyed this as I was painting. Originally, this was a set up for a workshop which I didn't do well..lol. however, I took a photo and changed everything around. They didn't have an apple ...they had an orange as well as grapes. I would like to do another still life with a design on the vase and grapes instead ... and a different color table cloth.. I am having too much fun!

I am not surprised that you can paint a wonderful still life. This is a real beauty! It seems to me that you can paint ANYTHING really well...and as always, managing to capture an emotional quality with light.
ReplyDeletethank you Julie. I really enjoyed painting this still life.. a very nice change..I just finished my second still life..which is very similar to this one...I appreciate your nice comment!

DeleteHilda, you are an inspiration in your versatility and excellence as well as your willingness to experiment, as in this deceptively simple-at-first-glance, captivating still life. I've also enjoyed browsing other posts--especially your recent lovely portraits. Thank you.

DeleteGood morning Hilda!:) This is a simple but immensely difficult challenge, and it's good that you are having fun, and trying something new. I'm amazed at how you manage to keep everything looking so clean!!! Using white pastel for the jug, with such a dark background, could have got quite messy, but you have achieved a lovely sharp clean contrast with gorgeous light, and the result is very pleasing. All the best Hilda.:)
ReplyDeleteSeparating the darks from the white was a bit challenging with pastels but I kept turning the paper so it wouldn't mix together! Thank you for that nice comment Sonjia!!!
DeleteChanging subject matter is the way I personally keep it more interesting. I love still life too and many times don't fit it in with all the other. It is the way I practice painting from life.
ReplyDeleteYou are so beautifully skilled in every subject matter you choose. The dark background really makes the pitcher and apple pop.
thank you so much Carol! Still life paintings are such a nice change from portraits.. a bit less stressful..lol

DeleteIt is a beautiful still life, Hilda! The white pitcher stands out against the dark, and the wood in the table looks so rich and warm. I think your idea of painting a design on the pottery is excellent. Another challenge for your capable hands. I applaud you for this beautiful painting! Please do more.
