Rembrandt Study

This is my first portrait in oils.  And what a challenge it was!
I don't know how you all paint with oils! lol...I had so many problems mixing colors.  I decided to paint a self-portrait of one of my favorite Artist - Rembrandt.  As you know, he painted so many self-portraits and since I love his style I used this as a study for my next oil portrait.   The title is "Self portrait with a Gorget".   I was curious to know what a Gorget was....it's the Armor that protects the throat and shoulders.   I learn something every day!

  8. First off Hilda, kudos to you for going after oils. Always hardest when you are trying it for the first time. But, wow, what a result. You may have struggled with the color mixing but you brought your beautiful complexions with you. The smooth of the leather on the Zhou, see contrasts with the fabric. Just so well done, and to tho k it is first, boy can't wait for what is coming next. Way to go girl.

love it when people move into the unknown like this, and succeed, it shows the way to others - like me - who have never painted in oils

  10. Un buen trabajo manejas el oleo con la maestria que nos tienes acostubrados con el pastel, personalmente me gustan mucho los autoretratos de Rembrand ese fundido de la parte en sombra con el fondo del cuadro tan personal.
