Papi

This is a portrait of my Papi.  I painted a portrait of him before but I loved the reference photo that I found when cleaning up.  He was ready to go out to a dinner when  I took this photo.  I thought it was the perfect time to post it since he was born in March.   When my daughter saw this portrait she wanted it...so I knew she must have loved it...
I miss this man everyday that passes!!

    Hi Hilda, I saw your comment on the post I did of my childhood. It is funny but my younger sister went to Jamaica HS when the rest of us went to Richmond Hill. I think they changed the zoning when she was in HS. I did find links to the Valencia Theater when I was looking for photos to do the sketches from and posted a link to it on FB. I didnt find a photo of the Valencia that was good enough to do a sketch that showed anything of it. After that post It was fun to see comments from people I knew that I never knew were from the Queens area. lol It is a small world.

      It is a small world Joan and I have so many wonderful memories from living there. I had a friend who lived across the street from me and she found me after 40 years on facebook!
      Life is good!! If I find any good photos from Valencia I will send them to you... it always reminded me of a Palace....

    Portraits are sometimes a way to do caresses on a beloved face.
    When I miss my daughter so much, I take a photo, and I do a pencil portrait ,looking at the picture ...So I think I may caress her face.
    Dear Hilda, with your art and your pastels, you can do amazing portraits that represent the soul of the person portrayed, as here, infusing life and character and presence.

    Hilda, this is a beautiful portrait of your dear Papi. I was reading Bruce Sherman's blog where he mentions transitioning and saw your comment about wanting to do something different than portraiture. I have been feeling the same way all winter. Kind of stuck. I thank you for all your encouraging comments on my paintings and I encourage you, as well, to mix it up and see what happens!
