LISA

Lisa was a model in one of my classes... I don't like to paint portraits in class so I took the reference picture of  Lisa and worked on her at home.  In class I just paint the model for practice since I have problems working on live models.  She was the perfect model with beautiful features.  I finished this portrait a few weeks ago but I've been so busy visiting everyone who was doing the challenge that I didn't get a chance to post it!   Everyone did so well and it amazes me when someone does a painting a day!!! Congratulations to all!

  3. Bonjour chère amie,

Ce portrait est merveilleux. Cela ne doit pas être facile de passer du modèle vivant à celui de la photo.
La lumière qui illumine ce beau visage est splendide.
Je suis sous le charme. Bravo l'artiste !

  6. Oh this one is very special, you've caught it all: the aloof pose, wisps of hair, the complexion, skin tones .... the lot! really love it.

You must be the most generous blogger I know, Hilda. You take the time to visit everyone, and everyone loves you for it.

The world needs more Hildas. God bless.

  7. It's beautiful Hilda!:) The eyes are amazing. I always have trouble with the eyes, because if they are not right, then the portrait is lifeless. I'm sure the lovely model will be delighted with her portrait. As a fellow pastel artista, I wish we could contact each other by email!
    Warm Regards

    1. Thank you so much SONJIA for your comment.....I study the eyes before I put my pastels down...the eyes are the "likeness" of the person so I try to get that down as well as possible. Have a wonderful day!

  12. As always dear Hilda you went beyond the handsome features of Lisa, you've caught something else, that I admire now on my screen. The portraits, better than photos, communicate the spirit of the person portrayed, if the artist is so skilled as you are.
To "extract" the essence of a character, in painting or drawing, it takes time.
I love working in the time that I need, sometimes also happens to be quick, but it happens ... it's not something I try to achieve with effort.
Painting or drawing , I want to be happy, not worried.
    Warm hugs,Rita.

You're absolutely correct when you say that it's better than a photo. I love details and I can't seem to get it without that close up photo...that's one of my problems...I would love to paint a bit more loose but don't know how!!! lol

The skin tones makes the portrait ! beautiful everything else too :) I too am always hesitant to sketch in front of others- even though sketching everyday the past few summers for my India sketch books definitely has made it bit easier -- I think nothing like practice and not judging every line I make :)
