Since I'm still working on a painting, I thought I would post this one that I did awhile ago but never posted..an oil painting of my two daughter's first shoes. When the shoes didn't fit any longer, I threw them out. Years later I went to my husband's workshop. When I looked up, there they stood!!! I couldn't believe he was the sentimental Dad.. Honestly, now I'm glad he took them out of the trash because I always regretted throwing them out. These shoes that were once white was pretty worn out so I couldn't paint them white, like I wanted. LOL
When I see this painting, I immediately think back when they were babies taking those first steps toward me...stumbling at first, but I was always there with open arms ready to catch them!!
Also, I wanted to share Colette Theriault's blog with all of you who are not familiar with her. She does mostly pastel portraits of pets that are so incredible and she's having a "pet portrait giveaway" that you don't want to miss out on.
Her link is http://petportraitsbycolette.blogspot.ca/2014/09/custom-pet-portrait-giveaway.html
You will love her work...

DeleteLove the little pattern holes and how did you manage to capture the "worn" look without making them look too badly worn?
ReplyDeleteiI doesn't suprise me your hubby is sentimental. Someone with a heart as big as yours knows a kindred spirit when they see one.

DeleteThis is a keepsake painting of some very precious memories. I am so glad you didn't clean the shoes; the scuffed up look expands the meaning of the picture. All parents look at these and see their own toddlers running about. Sensational symbols,of good times past. Good for your husband! And endearing too.

ReplyDeleteI held the little things that I had done for my daughter and recently have been the first dress, on my granddaughters. The funny thing is that nurses, in Italy, they did not wear those sweaters cotton homemade on my daughter .... but the nurses French (the girls were born in France) ... they did not make any objection, thirty years later.

Gros bisous ♡
I'm glad you saved your children's shoes as well, MARTINE....those memories are so precious! Thank you for such a beautiful comment and enjoy your day!!

ReplyDeleteCiao Hilda,

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad he saved them as well, CELESTE!! thank you for stopping by to comment and happy you liked it! Enjoy your day!!
DeleteBeautiful painting of cute little shoes! My son is now 15 and I had also saved his first pair of shoes..sadly I had to throw them out this time as we sold the house in India and there was no space anymore for them ..made me sad but one has got to do stuff like this sometimes :)
ReplyDeletethank you ARTI for stopping by to comment! Unfortunately, we just can't hold on to everything we want. I had a drawer full of my daughter's "memories" but since I needed the space I couldn't hold on to it... I asked them first before I threw it out and they didn't want it because they didn't have room...hmmmm!!
ReplyDeleteI love the little shoes, and I'm sure each scuff mark is a story or a memory...how great to do a painting of it and how sweet that your husband saved the shoes.
ReplyDeleteI am finally home and am staying up checking blogs even though it is 3:15 am Italian time. Maybe if I can stay up until bedtime in NY I can adjust quicker. lol I have also started posting about my trip so come and visit.
Glad you're back home safely Joan! Thank you for stopping by to comment ...I appreciate it so much.
DeleteYou must be so exhausted!
I have a special place in my heart for shoes too. They say so much about the person who wore them, don't they? These are so sweet, the way you've composed the piece and the subtle colors, give it a nostalgic feeling and sweet memory.
ReplyDeletethank you KATHERINE for such a nice comment.
ReplyDeleteMemories come to me as soon as I see those little shoes....glad you liked them!
Good morning Hilda!... The painting is grand... but the grandest part was the thought you offered that "those shoes first walk to you... and then away".How true that is.
ReplyDeleteI can identify with your husband and his actions. Men often aren't recognized for their sensitive sides... but most have them!
A gem Hilda!
Good Pastel-ing!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
thank you BRUCE for such a nice comment!
DeleteI agree that a lot of men aren't recognized for their "sensitive" side and know that they have them...Now I'm wondering what else he has down there! lol Enjoy your day!
