One of many reference pictures that I have..this one is of a man enjoying Gramercy Park, NYC on a sunny and brisk afternoon... maybe on his break? but his expression caught my eye and thought it would make a nice pastel portrait...
I am always touched by the unusual choices of your characters ... you're a painter of portraits that have always something different! Congratulations, dear Hilda, for the finesse with which you paint your portraits and also for the continuous, passionate, artistic research to get these valuable references.
Thank you RITA for such a generous comment.! I love to paint portraits like you love to paint flowers! I see a face and I immediately want to paint them..I'm glad you stopped by!..
It is a good portrait, Hilda! I could see why you'd want to paint him - such a far-and-away look in his eyes, and you've portrayed that so well! Kathryn XX
Amazing portrait, you caught both the sun light and the fresh air on his face and that intense 'trying to avoid the chill look' in his eyes. Wish you a nice weekend.
Another wonderful portrait. The way you brought out the texture of his hat is fabulous and the little bit of plaid lining showing adds depth and interest. Yes, another winner!
What an awesome job you did on his beard and I love his hat!! Wish I could stand sitting outside in the cold, but alas, I prefer all the comforts of the indoors! LOL
Thank you CELIA!!!...I love looking at people..we all have different faces...expressions that are so interesting.. especially to an Artist. When I saw this man sitting on the bench..it was the perfect pose I look for..I'm glad you liked him!!
I like how you cropped him...it makes the viewer really concentrate on his expression. You did a wonderful painting of a total stranger. I think you were born to paint people!
I did wonder what he was thinking.. I think that's why I liked his expression enough to take that reference shot... Your comment means a lot to me, DIANA.....I'm glad you stopped by!!
Great to catch up with your blog, Hilda! Your portraits are so wonderful, and so is this one! Makes me wonder what he is thinking. Have a great Sunday!

We stayed at the Gramercy Park Hotel years ago...WAY before the changes. We could not afford to stay there now. But back then...1996...it was such a charming hotel.

Bonsoir ma chère amie, Tes pastels sont tellement poignants... forts et émouvants. Tu as un talent extraordinaire. Tu sais transmettre des émotions. La vie est belle grâce à toi. Merci pour ton très gentil message. Je me remets doucement. Gros bisous
Thank you so much PAGE for stopping by and for your lovely comment! As far as my Spanish... I always spoke to my parents in Spanish...now that they're gone, I don't speak it at all...but when I started to blog, I speak to all of my Spanish bloggers and I love it. Since I was always "Spanglish", it's a wonderful practice for me!! It's a beautiful language that I never want to forget.
My name is Hilda Muxo Klinger. My passion for art came early.I have always said that I was born with a pencil in one hand and a box of crayons in the other.I am a Bronx born New Yorker who can remember sitting at the kitchen table copying faces that appeared in the newspapers and magazines as a girl.
I am married 53 years and have two daughters and five amazing grandchildren. While I worked and raised my family in East Rockaway, I used art as a form of relaxation, painting here and there. I dabbled with several artistic mediums through the years—everything from pencil to charcoal to oil and it was only after I joined The Parish Social Ministry Art Club in East Rockaway in 2006 that I realized my true passion of pastels.
I studied under Dan Slapo and I don't think I've ever enjoyed a class more than I did with him. He taught me many different techniques in painting a portrait. Working with a live model was so different for me and I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to work with this Master of Pastels...He encouraged me to join the Pastel Society and I am now an Associate Member . I am thrilled to say that I have displayed my paintings in Rockville Center Village Art Club and have received several ribbons for my work. Thank you for visiting my blog. I will continue to add my painting in the future and hope you enjoy them as I have enjoyed painting them.
You have that perfect " sun in the eyes" look. I can never tell your pastels from your oils, both are so luscious.
ReplyDeleteThank you BARBARA!! Such a nice comment...I appreciate it.! I just wish I can paint a portrait with oils...Someday I'll give it a try!
