I saw this Indian girl when I visited the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I took her picture and she looked so proud.
I believe she comes from the Hualapai Tribe. They manage the Skywalk...Today the tribe count is about 2300 members.
Peach Springs is the tribal headquarters. where.they operate a Hotel, Restaurant and a gift shop. The tourist industry offers them opportunity for employment.. I loved her colorful dress wear.

What a wonderful proud and lovely face. I am pleased you captured the beading details - so uniquely American Indian. Did you get her address so you can send her a copy?
ReplyDeleteI went to Skywalk when it first opened and no facilities were in place. Imagine driving all that way...they did show wonderful architectual plans of what was to be.
anyway. After your glowing report I will go back.
I am so pleased that the tribe has found a way to make some money and offer employment to their younger members.
thank you so much JULIE for your comment!
DeleteShe was posing for everyone with her family at one point so I regret not taking information from her... The road going to the skywalk is still not finished...I would say its about 9 miles of dirt road and hard on the car! I was afraid because it was a rented car but we drove slowly and carefully. We had to leave our cameras in a locker because they won't let you take photos on the skywalk!! Bummer!!
But it was all worth it at the end!!
She does look as if she is aware that she is a unique individual ...and indeed she is! I love her pretty face (she looks so thoughtful) ...and her wonderful beads. Fantastic!
ReplyDeletethank you CELESTE for stopping by to comment.! She did have a beautiful face.. We all need models like her! Glad you like her.
