First painting; 2012

My nephew's daughter was
sitting by the lamp in the living
room, Christmas Eve, when I
was captured by the shadows on
her face. I ran for my camera
and took the reference picture
for this portrait. I enjoyed
painting her so much...I always love
the challenge of getting the likeness
of the person on paper.

  49. Hilda, another beautiful child portrait. Her family will love this one. You managed to get that deep shadow, which is often my downfall -- I get too timid.

I love this painting... as much for the clever, energetic composition... as I do for the usually rich pastel colour and light!

You should be very proud of this one Hilda! It's a gem!

    Good Pastelling in 2012!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce
