Tennessee Beauty

Did you ever do something and regretted it?  I painted this portrait and destroyed it before putting it aside and looking at it with fresh eyes.  Well, it's too late for this one but I would like to paint it again someday.  I used my soft Rembrandt pastels as well as my pastel pencils.... and I really liked cropping him.
My advice....don't be impulsive like me... lol

  2. Hilda - this was certainly a lovely painting but I am sure you will do it over. Sorry you destroyed this one though. Hilda bless you too for sharing your "Happy Place". It touched my heart - like you I miss my Dad - the berry patch in the summer is one of my Happy Places because Dad and I always enjoyed picking berries together. So glad you have wonderful memories too. Hugs!

  3. I think it's beautiful just like it is... even if it is only a photograph of the painting. I like the cropped partial view.

  5. I am sorry too, Hilda. But I have been known to be that impulsive as well. Leaving it for a while works for me.
I hope you will do this one again.

  6. Funny how critical we are of our own work and have that impulse to get rid of something that isn't exactly what we were hoping for. I tend to put things away for a while and look at it with fresh eyes. I do remember my sister did a painting of a lighthouse once and was really unhappy with it. She tore it into two pieces and there it away. A friend visited and saw it in the trash, rescued it and framed it in two sections to hang it in her house. lol I hope you do paint this one again.

    Saludos.

  11. Yup...great horse portrait. At least you still have the image.
I still do it...and reading all the above understanding agreements, I see it is a common problem so anyone who can tell us all how they solved it...we want to know about it.

  12. Oh, such a beautiful painting, Hilda - I liked it from the moment I saw it. Such a beautiful horse with a gentle eye and wonderfully composed to keep us looking and wondering about him. I do hope you try him again - as artists, we are our own worse critics. I suppose that is what keeps us growing and improving - but I mourn the loss of this one. He is just gorgeous.

    1. Thank you so much Susan...I appreciate your comment. I already started on another one... Almost the same however, I added some changes and I am working on a bigger canvas. We are definitely our own worse critics...sad, but it taught me not to be so impulsive. Enjoy your day, Susan!!!
