Dance Recital

I took the reference picture of Lexi right before her recital a few months back.  (So many pictures of the grandkids!)   I told  her not to smile, once again!!  She's getting used to me already..and knows when I take a picture...you're not allowed to smile.  LOL
I used my Unison pastels for the bows and trim on the dress.  Unison pastels are very soft and the colors are so intense.  I went to Blick's this week and as you all know, going there is like going to a candy store..!!!  I hope you like this portrait....  I enjoyed painting her.

  9. Love the angle of her head and you cropped it just right. I am in awe of the glint showing the curve of the eye and how is so perfectly painted. This is a really good portrait - as they say...you done good!

  16. Aw, I love how you did this portrait! It really brings out her young, innocent personality. The reflections and shadows on the skin are amazing! Yep, Dick Blick is like a wonderland for me too! But I have to drive an hour and half to get there, so I only go once or twice a year.

  21. Great portrait. Yes, smiles are troublesome. The Mona Lisa or a smirk is better. But there is something challenging about open mouth laughter that keeps me trying. You are very fortunate to have such an accommodating grandchild around.

  36. Your work is so inspiring, Hilda! This is absolutely lovely. I just took some pictures of my grandkids (in hopes of painting them), and was also telling them not to smile. They are such happy kids, that when I told them not to smile they just giggled and their smiles got bigger!
