First time Mom

I will always remember how I felt the first moment that my daughter was given to me by the Nurse.  The instant love is so strong that you just never forget that moment.  There isn't anything better than becoming a Mommy for the first time.  My cousin commissioned two paintings of this beautiful family--one of this bundle of joy with mama and the other is of the little one with his dad.  She will receive this portrait next week...so I think it will be safe to post it..I will post the second one soon..   Originally, I wanted to paint this with oils but who am I kidding?  I wasn't sure what colors to use.  After staring at all the beautiful colors that I would have used in an oil portrait, I took my pastels out, since I feel more comfortable with pastels..better idea..LOL!! I hope she likes this as much as I enjoyed painting her handsome little  boy!!

Is this on a dark paper or did you add the background. It certainly makes the subjects stand out.

  17. Hilda! This is amazing! I love the expression you captured on the mother's face. It brings back memories of holding my two sons when they were babies. Beautiful work Hilda...I can't wait to see the other painting. I would have done the same thing...stick to what I know. :)

I am so amazed at the detail you get with pastel...it seems so so difficult!

  23. Hi there Hilda!... As is always the case in your fine pastel portraiture... you capture the "
"essence" of human feeling... as well as the physicality of the moment!

The kind of love that you have frozen in spectacular fashion here... is essentially the element of a mother's unconditional love which can shape us forever... as fine and giving human beings!

    A fine masterpiece!

    Good Painting and Happy Summer!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce
