So who knew! I finally took the plunge and walked to Hewlett Point Beach L.I. and took a photo of this boat. I bought oil paints years ago but never dared to paint with them.. You all paint so beautifully with oil as well as water that I wanted to at least try.
Hilda, A great first attempt I must say. Just love those subtle colors creating a nice mood out there.. And the portrait in the previous post is amazing. I wonder how you do it with pastels.
Thank you so much PRABAL for that beautiful comment. I'm enjoying it very much. I do love my pastels, though...and will leave watercolors to you since you do so well with it!.
Thank you DORS and SUSAN for stopping by! I did like oils very much. Love the smell and the creamy feel of this medium..and definitely will try it again. Before Dad passed away, he left a lot of watercolors which I've tried and absolutely failed at it..so I gave them away to my friend who works with this difficult medium. I am in awe of anyone who works with it.
Lovely painting, Hilda! I can almost feel the texture of the well painted sand between my toes. Lol.
I have a feeling you will soon be captured by the richness oils offer to your artwork. It may try to win you over completely, but always continue doing the fine pastels, also.
It could be confused with a pastel painting. Without any doubt is a realistic painting with colors and brushstrokes smooth. I hope, you keep doing oil paintings. Se confunde con un pastel. Sin duda es una pintura realista con colores y pinceladas suaves. Espero que sigas haciendo óleos.
Hey there Hilda!.... This "beach bum" portrait is no plunge! It's a dive!... and scores a perfect 10 on my scorecard...if that means anything to you!
A wonderful painting by any standard Hilda! Switching mediums energizes the creative spirit... and... will revitalize your interest and ideas in your pastels afterwards!
Well done Hilda!
Good Painting and Pastel-ing! Warmest regards, Bruce
Thank you Bruce for those encouraging words. I never thought I would like oils the way I do..I look forward to painting with them again. Seeing all my blogger friends painting with oil was such an inspiration!! Thank you again for stopping by.
Good job! Kudos for showing the courage. I need to try that--only in reverse from you--and break out the pastels I've had for 20 yrs. and used about once!
Seriously though, your experience in other media shows in your handling of the oils. Doesn't look like a first timer at all.
Thank you A.DECKER for your comment. I've had my oils for many, many years and I looked at it so often...Now, I wonder why it took me so long to try it.
thank you GRAZIANO for stopping by and commenting. You're right! It's so nice to be working with another medium. Oil is wonderful..love how smooth it is to work with.
This is a beautiful, soft painting and I love the composition. It certainly doesn't look like you've never painted in oils before. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Thank you SADAMI for those beautiful words of encouragement. Your love for watercolors come out in all of your paintings! A difficult medium which you have mastered
My name is Hilda Muxo Klinger. My passion for art came early.I have always said that I was born with a pencil in one hand and a box of crayons in the other.I am a Bronx born New Yorker who can remember sitting at the kitchen table copying faces that appeared in the newspapers and magazines as a girl.
I am married 53 years and have two daughters and five amazing grandchildren. While I worked and raised my family in East Rockaway, I used art as a form of relaxation, painting here and there. I dabbled with several artistic mediums through the years—everything from pencil to charcoal to oil and it was only after I joined The Parish Social Ministry Art Club in East Rockaway in 2006 that I realized my true passion of pastels.
I studied under Dan Slapo and I don't think I've ever enjoyed a class more than I did with him. He taught me many different techniques in painting a portrait. Working with a live model was so different for me and I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to work with this Master of Pastels...He encouraged me to join the Pastel Society and I am now an Associate Member . I am thrilled to say that I have displayed my paintings in Rockville Center Village Art Club and have received several ribbons for my work. Thank you for visiting my blog. I will continue to add my painting in the future and hope you enjoy them as I have enjoyed painting them.
Wow you did a really great job on this! Keep painting in oil!
